Just like any other muscle in the body, eye muscles also need to be used constantly to prevent them from becoming lax. Therefore, it is important to keep your eye muscles active throughout the day. Just looking at the computer screen or the road in front of you while driving doesn’t put a total strain on your muscles. Additional eye exercises are a must. These are some of the benefits of eye exercises:

Exercise 1. Relaxation of the rectus muscles

The exercise should be performed in the following steps:

  1. Place the thumb on the nose at a 90 degree angle.
  2. Move clockwise to 12 o’clock. Hold it there for 23 seconds, then bring it back. Eyes must follow the thumb.
  3. Now move your thumb to the 1 o’clock position, hold it there for 23 seconds, and return it to the original position (90 degree angle).
  4. Repeat for all clock positions.
  5. Remember to breathe correctly during this exercise.

Exercise 2. Eye massage

Benefit: The shape of the cornea is restored with this.

The exercise should be performed in the following steps:

  1. Close your eyes, then place two fingers on each of your eyelids.
  2. With light pressure, slowly move your fingers in a circular motion up and down and right to left.
  3. Move your fingers clockwise and counter clockwise.
  4. Repeat 10 to 15 times, and perform 2 to 4 times a day.

Exercise 3. Reading

Benefit: Astigmatism causes stress and pressure. This exercise helps in relieving them.

The exercise should consist of the following steps:

  1. Take out a book.
  2. Place an object next to it. After reading a paragraph in the book, focus on the object.
  3. Keep doing this until your eyes feel tired.

Exercise 4: Visual disturbances

Benefit: This exercise relieves pressure on the eyes and relieves fatigue.

The exercise should consist of the following steps:

  1. Take a break from writing, reading or looking at the computer.
  2. Focus on other distant objects for at least 20 seconds

This exercise should be repeated as much as possible.

The exercise should be performed in the following steps:

  1. Look in the mirror to see if your head is tilted to one side.
  2. Try consciously tilting your head to the other side every day.

Exercise 6. Eye Yoga

  1. Maintain a straight posture. Stand up, sit on the chair or on the floor.
  2. Close your eyes and breathe as you focus on your eyes.
  3. Begin slowly moving your eyes from side to side.

Exercise 7. Blink

Advantage: Blink keeps your eyes moist and allows you to focus better. It also reduces stress on the eyes and keeps them fresh.

The exercise should be performed in the following steps:

  1. Set a 2 minute timer.
  2. Flashes every 34 seconds.

You should do this exercise at least 4 times a day.

Benefit: This exercise helps your eyes regain strength and become more flexible.

The exercise should be completed in the following steps:

  1. Look at a distance of 10 feet from your eyes.
  2. Imagine the number 8.
  3. Roll your eyes over the number for 2 minutes.
  4. Do the same in reverse for 2 minutes.
